Maconomy originates from PPU Software A/S, founded in 1983 by Per Tejs Knudsen, Philip Dam, and Ulrik Jørring.
In 1984-1989 the three entrepreneurs worked passionately to develop the technology that laid the foundation for further growth. PPU Software A/S developed and marketed a business application for the Hewlett-Packard HP3000 mini computer. In 1989, all activities were collected in the subsidiary PPU Maconomy A/S, spearheaded by Per Tejs Knudsen as CEO.
During the 1990s the company developed support for the internet without having to redesign its product architecture. In 1998 Maconomy launched its first internet-based solutions, including a web shop and a Java-based time sheet client.
In light of the sustained growth in Maconomy's market segment, the company decided to go public in 2000. Despite severe turbulence on the international stock markets, Maconomy was able to successfully complete the IPO, providing the foundation for future growth of the company.
Bent Larsen, who served as Chairman of the Board for more than a decade, was appointed CEO in 2002. A strategy for growth was subsequently announced. The strategy called for increased focus on the core client segments with which Maconomy had accumulated more than 15 years of expertise.
In June 2005 Hugo Dorph was employed as new CEO in Maconomy. His main objective was to kick off a new era of growth. After growing the top and bottom line significantly during the first growth phase from 2006 to 2008, Hugo Dorph and the Executive Group announced a three-year growth plan that will help Maconomy achieve European leadership among ERP providers to Professional Services Organisations by 2011.
